Christ Agony is one of the most important bands in the Polish black metal scene, founded in 1990 in MorΔ g by Cezary "Cezar" Augustynowicz. The group is considered a pioneer of the genre in Poland. From the beginning, their music stood out for its rawness, doom/death influences, and Cezar's distinctive vocal expression.
Biography:
The band quickly gained recognition with the demos Sacronocturn (1990) and Epitaph of Christ (1992). In the 1990s, they released a series of key albums that solidified their position in the underground scene, including Unholyunion (1993), Daemoonseth - Act II (1994), and Moonlight - Act III (1996). In 2003, the band's activities were paused, with Cezar continuing his work under the name Union. In 2007, Christ Agony was reactivated. Currently, the band remains active, and after a nine-year break, they returned with the album Anthems (2025), marking a return to their roots and the spiritual symbolism of earlier recordings.
With the new album, the band introduced a new lineup. Alongside the leader, Leszek "Shambo" Rakowski, former bassist of Vader (1993-2001) and previously of Slashing Death with the late Krzysztof "Docent" Raczkowski (Vader's drummer, 1989-2005), joined the band.
The drummer of Christ Agony is now Dmitry "Dimon" Kim from Ukraine, who has previously recorded with bands such as Drift of Genes (death metal), Human Nihility (death metal), Implant Soul (prog death metal), Morton (heavy/power metal), and Axsoire (post black metal).
